Setting out to find these natural hot waters for myself, I headed to explore this rocky island. Having to descend down from the cliffs, down the winding road onto the jagged rocks below was long journey. Just as I reached the first corner, "ciao bella," an Italian man on a scooter offers a back seat ride.
Well, of course! No trip to Italy can be complete without a ride on a scooter while holding on for my dear life to an Italian man as he speeds through the streets.
We finally made it, and I headed down onto the rocks.
You had to be careful where you get into the water. In some areas, the water was nearly boiling. In other areas, the water was freezing cold. Somewhere in between, you can find a pool of water that's not too hot, not too cold, but just riiight.
I would soak up the hot water, but then go for a swim in the other end to cool off, and then climb over other rocks to test out other pools of waters. By the way, you had to be careful with the rocks too, because not only were some of them jagged and slippery, some were very hot, too. When you finally find your perfect spot, you can just bask in the sun and watch the sailboats peacefully pass by in the distance.
But don't get too comfortable! You aren´t the only one enjoying the warm water and sunlight. You have to share your rock with the crabs, who are also enjoying the gorgeous weather.
By the end of day, my feet were banged up, my legs with scratches and my stomach rumbling. Time to hitchhike back up to the city.
