As we zigzagged through the steep terrain, the bus driver had to honk every other second on every turn because you didn't know what was hiding around each sharp corner. We drove up, down and around large cliffs and mountains to reach the coast of Amalfi in Italia. As we went higher and higher, my face was pressed against the window and my jaw wide open because of the breathtaking view.
On one side, you see the beautiful city of Sorrento and the yachts circling near its port, overlooking the shadows of islands in the distance. On the other side, you see steep jagged cliffs protruding over the Tyrrhenian Sea and little colorful houses peaking out among them.
Admiring the beauty I thought to myself "Wow! No man made structure can even compare to natures beauty." It was such an inspiring view! On the most gorgeous sunny day, the water was glistening, dancing to the sun's rays. While staring out into the distance, you can see where heaven meets earth as the deep blue water met the blue sky at the horizon.
Approaching the coast, we slowly lowered our way down to the town on Amalfi. Going straight to the beach, I had my swim suit underneath my clothes all ready to go. First thing first, I head straight to the water. Undressing myself while running, I came up to an Italian man who was sunbathing near the water and ask him to watch my things, as I was already one foot in the water. He had no other choice, but oblige.
I didn´t care how cold the water was; I dived right in. It felt so refreshing. The water was cold and crisp. I could taste the salt on my lips.
Wandering through the town, I learned that Amalfi is a city of lemons. Here, I sampled lemon cookies, lemon gelato, lemon cake, and especially limoncello. I went around from store to store sampling all their products. I YUM!
When I retire, I´ll probably be on a villa here.
As the sun was starting to set in the sky, I hopped on the bus back to the city. As we drove back, the sun slowly hid behind the jagged cliffs, with hues of red, orange, and yellow blending with the blues and purples of the sky, meanwhile the moon crescent peeking over the edge. By the end of the ride, the sun has set and we were driving down from the cliffs into the night, to the city with a hazy dim of street lights.
The Italian way to finish the day: an extra large gelato for dinner!
